Jonathan Hewes to Become CEO of Mentorn Media, Pioneer Productions

Leading U.K. independent production group Tinopolis has appointed Wall to Wall’s Jonathan Hewes as CEO of Mentorn Media and Pioneer Productions.

Hewes will be responsible for the day-to-day running of both production companies, and will report jointly to Arwel Rees, CEO of the Tinopolis Group, and John Willis, creative director of the Tinopolis Group and chairman of Mentorn Media. Stuart Carter, founder of Pioneer Productions, is stepping down from his role as chairman of the company.

Hewes has worked at Wall to Wall for 20 years, where he held senior roles as head of factual programs, creative director, deputy chief executive, and most recently head of international. He was involved in the development and production of a wide range of the company’s programming for broadcasters around the world, including all of the major U.K. broadcasters, National Geographic Channel, PBS, HBO and Discovery. He also initiated Wall to Wall’s move into theatrical documentaries with Oscar and BAFTA-winning “Man on Wire,” which he executive produced. Hewes began his broadcasting career as a journalist with BBC’s “Nationwide,” before moving on to be a producer of rock show “The Tube,” prior to joining Wall to Wall in 1995. Hewes will start his new role on Aug. 24.

Mentorn Media’s catalog of factual programming includes “Question Time” (BBC One), “Fried Chicken Shop” (Channel 4) and “An Idiot Abroad” (Sky1). Pioneer Productions’ key shows include “Treasures of the Earth” (PBS’ “Nova” and KBS Korea), “How the Universe Works” (Discovery Science), “How the Earth Works” (Channel 4), “Monsters Behind the Iron Curtain” (NGCI and Animal Planet) and “Mail Order Murder” (Investigation Discovery).
